Houndstooth Furniture

Houndstooth is a traditional cloth pattern that has been around for many years, similar in appearance to tweeds and check patterns, houndstooth has long been used in making houndstooth furniture. Resembling a checkered pattern and traditionally seen in the colors of black and white, houndstooth furniture is can be found in many color combinations.

Houndstooth fabric patterns are thought to have originated in Scotland, modeled after tweed patterns so often seen in items of clothing like jackets and trousers. The checkered affect in the pattern is achieved by the use of 2 over 2 or 4 over weaving patterns alternating the weft and the warp weaving pass.
